My job has been slowly laying people off. I am pregnant and I’m afraid they are going to lay me off because they know I will be going on maternity leave soon. Is that legal even though I live in a state where they can fire you for no reason? Will the FMLA laws cover me or can they do what they want since they have been laying people off?

I teach college courses and am due to give birth at the end of August. My boss told me she does not want me to cancel classes at the beginning of the semester. But, I would like a couple weeks to recuperate after delivering.
I work as an adjunct (part-time). Does the FMLA apply to me? Am I entitled by law to take at least a few weeks off?
I have worked for this college part-time for one year.

I’m 11 weeks pregnant and havent been able to work for 30 days due to how sick I am from the pregnancy. I had 30 days of medical leave from my job which i have now used up. They told me that if i cannot get cleared to come back to work then I either resign or get fired. I have only worked here for 4 months so the FMLA laws do not protect my job there. Are there any other laws that protect me from getting fired? I really need this job but i am still too sick to return to work.
Please help!!

FMLA only covers companies and employess where there are over 50 employees. I work for a small doctors office with only 5 of us.

I just started a new job in early Novemer. Around thanksgiving I found out I was pregnant. The HR is pretty strict at my job and I am worried they will not allow any maternity leave because I have not been her the 12 months that the FMLA states. Will I lose my job if I take time off to have my baby?

I recently had to go home early from work to pick my child up from day care due to illness. I was just wondering if anyone knew anyway to get this as an excused absence. Not sure the FMLA or Medical leave rules.

My father was in ICU in very critical conditions so I took the weekend I was suppose to work to go see him and my mom. My ex job gives us 12 points before we are terminated and I had 8. I didn’t really worry about it because I figured they would understand since my dad is almost dying but when I came back go work I got fired for attendance! Isn’t this breaking FMLA laws? What should I do? I never gave them actual documentations about the situation, but I’m getting then right now. Just want to know if I’m at fault here or my employer? Do I have reason to fight this?

A fellow worker has had heart surgery and is off on FMLA leave because our company does not provide sick time. The company is trying to revoke his insurance because he has not worked the requisite amount of time (per month) to qualify for insurance. They are telling him that he can continue coverage through COBRA, but COBRA is for employess that resign or are fired. He has neither resigned nor been fired. What are his options? What are his rights under Michigan law? Can the employer drop coverage to an employee out on medical leave with a serious medical condition?
Note during the Medical leave by law his insurance cannot be dropped.
This guys pretty much SOL then huh???
Talk about a crap system…

I work for an employer who is very strict on time off because we work on a very tight schedule. My last pregnancy ended in miscarriage in January of this year and that really blasted away all of my sick time. I had asked for intermittent FMLA from my OBGYN BEFORE the miscarriage occurred, but his office personnel told me that it is their office policy never to sign off on any FMLA forms until the 38th week! It was my understanding that pregnancy is defined by the FMLA laws as a serious health condition and I feel I am entitled to time off–it would certainly be to the employer’s benefit as I’m basically useless to them for most of the day. Any advice out there in Yahoo land?

I have NO idea what to do or where to start. I recently returned to work after having a baby girl. I was out of work for about a month and a half and used my sick/vactaion time, so Im not sure if I qualify for FMLA law or not. I was promiced to be retuned to my same workplace, same position and same partner. While I was out, my employeer hired a “friend of the family” in my place and when I returned I was put in another position, with different working conditions in another area. I contacted my employer in writing and my Union nothing was done.
I was at the time trying to breastfeed my daughter, and since I was put under stressfull conditons and not given propper oppertunity to pump while I was at work, I stopped producing enough to feed my daughter. I had to begin supplimenting, and since then I had to begin supplimenting, and since then completly switch to formula. My daughter now has severe food allergies and has to be put on a prescription formula that can cost more then $800 a month! She wouldnt be having these problems if I were still able to breastfeed. There are several details involved, but this is the basic problem. Do I have a case and if so what kind of lawer do I need to see? What should I be suing for? And will I lose my job if I sue my boss? ( Also, my boss does NOT work for our company any more, she “stepped down” because she was going to be under investigation for fraud) I dont know were to start. Ive never been in a situation like this, but I feel ive been treated unfairly in many ways and need to do SOMETHING! Please help however possible. Thanks!
I did contact the DOL they were near IMPOSSIBLE to contact, then thet referred me to another branch of something a week later they referred me to someone else…they obviously dont want to help or dont know what they are doing.
