I have a friend who is 50 years old and has been working for the same company for the past 4 years. He is the best employee the company has. The owners stepson has moved to the area and took over mostly. The owner and his stepson keep making comments to my friend about his age (aren’t you to old for this….aren’t you ready to retire yet….etc.) Well the owner is going on vacation next week and my fiend is convinced that the stepson will fire him while the boss is gone since he will be in charge. Ever since the stepson has moved to town the working environment has been horrible…very hostile to say the least. My friend used to be the “manager” but that is no more. Do no laws against this type of discrimination appy here. The company is a small family owned business with maybe 10 employees. Everything I find relates to businesses with 15 or more employees. What can he do???
The EEOC and Age Discrimination Act only apply to business with 15 or more employees. Therefore is it going to do ANY good to even contact the EEOC? Yes, by law they have to take the complaint but will anything be done??? I have searched the web up and down for info on small biz laws and can find nothing unless you employee 15 or more people. So does this mean people who only employee 5-10 people can do what they want in regard to their employees???

having pictures of hot semi nude girls on a calender
talking about other females in the office like how hot they are
convening a business meeting at a hooters restaurant.
women say that the above things contribute to a sexually hostile environment in the workplace and the men doing these are guilty of sexual harassment. laws too reflect the same.
im not defender of these things, they are UNPROFESSIONAL anways. but my point is that there is a high possibility that a woman who claims to be a victim of such sexual harassment, may actually be feeling insecure rather than sexually harassed.
if i put myself in the shoes of a secreteary and i have a female boss who convenes a business meeting at a strip clubs where males strip i will definetly get uncomfortable. i empathiize with women here. BUT my discomfort is actually due to the insecurity that hot young muscular males are stripping naked and all the women are checking them out. i would feel insecure because of that NOT BECAUSE i am feeling threatened sexually….there is a difference.
same goes for having images of hot young women in workplace and men talking about female colleagues that have UPSET a woman or two resulting in SEXUAL HARASSMENT CASES

To give a brief background, I’ll state that I have a rare metabolic disorder called Trimethylamanuria, or TMAU. TMAU, formerly known as “fish malodor syndrome,” is a disorder in which the individual affected has a severe, offensive body odor which can smell like feces, urine, or rotting fish. I most often smell of urine quite strongly, even though I bathe three times a day. There is no cure for the condition, and no courses of treatment have worked for me. I eat a very restrictive diet, but have had no success. Persons with this disorder are at astronomically high risk of suicide, and suicide rates of affected individuals are very high.
Now that you have an idea of what the disorder is, I’ll go on to ask my question:
I have had a very hard time with this disorder at work. I have been gravely insulted by many co-workers and upper-level employees. Fellow employees do not hesitate to say directly to my face that I smell like “ass” or “piss” or, as one extremely enlightened individual put it, “a flaming shitbag on the doorstep.” I have very good job performance, and I’m one of the best employees, but I’m getting very hurt by these comments. As a result of this condition and the hostile environment at my workplace, I suffer from severe depression and anxiety.
Will my workplace qualify as a Hostile Work Environment and, if so, how do I file a complaint to designate it as so and what does the Hostile Work Environment designation entail.

I feel that my workplace is hostile with a gang mentality. I’ve seen this particular group torment various employees until they lashed back and were fired as the victims looked like the aggressors. Here’s yesterday’s scenario: I was at a work function and got a piece of pastry. Two guys walked behind me on their way out the door. I said hello to one of them and I heard the other make loud imitations of a pig. I turned around and looked at the guy who did it, and I heard him say to the other one as he looked at me, “She turned around”. I was quite angry and by the way, he’s fat and I’m thin. Do you think that this constitutes harrassment?

The restaraunt I work for has one manager in particular that rides people for little things, finds fault in everything, and belittles almost everyone on any given night he works. He has been reprimanded several times, both by upper management and the owners, and the behavior comtinues. I guess my question would be what should my next course of action be? I can’t afford to not work, but at the same time, I really do not look forward to being in the restaraunt at the same time he is, and there are more than a few coworkers that would agree. I would think that having a whole crew walk out on him would get the message across, but then we would be left jobless. Anyone been through this or anything similar?

They make comments outloud and they would never do that to someone who is handicapped or something. It’s astonishing. Even in the workplace the overweight are somehow discounted.
PS – I am only a bit overweight but since I’ve gained the 25 lbs or so (due to meds) I have noticed a difference from some people. I am mostly talking about overweight woman as in 200 lbs. or more.

Unfortunately, no laws were made to go against it.
It’s the bullying the causes a hostile work environment. And proving work harassment/bullying is very difficult in court. Being bullied results in health issues such as heart disease, stroke, and long-term stress.
