Religious Harassment in Workplace?

I am a male Roman Catholic who began current job almost 2 years ago. While interviewing me my future boss asked me what I was getting my Masters Degree in; I told her Theology. Shortly after beginning my job she would constantly ask me questions about my religion and why I believed in it. She also told me she wasn’t a practicing jew. During working hours she would constantly ask me questions about my religious beliefs. One day while talking to me about “sins” I told her I believe in confession (confessing my sins to a priest) and she said to me “oh, come on you’re much to bright to believe in that.” I told her I do believe in that and she laughed at me in a room with at least 10 other people. She kept talking to me about reincarnation and gave me books on it even though I told her it was against my religious beliefs. She kept asking aloud, “did you read the books”? I’ve been on disability for past 3 months for panic attacks. She made me so nervous I can’t go back to work, I’m on meds!
Sorry I didn’t have enough room to finish. When I did tell her the conversations made me uncomfortable she then made my work life unbearable. She picked on every little thing I did until I couldn’t take it anymore. She said that I had a family to support and I’d better watch myself. I’m the only guy in the office and when I received several e-mails concerning male sexual stereotypes she said “oh, well that’s what happens when you’re the only man in an all female office.” This may sound “weak” to some of you but this atmosphere at my job mentally wore me down and I can’t go back there to work. I’m on an anti-depressant and an anti-anxiety med. Do I have any legal recourse? Please don’t judge me, all I’m seeking is legal type opinions. Thank you all.

My group of co-workers seem to hate the QC person because she always tell them what to do and what they did wrong. They are constantly fighting for the radio and the group is constantly mocking and gossiping about the QC. The group wanted to listen to hip hop and lady gaga (and songs like “birthday sex” and “hotel motel undressing”), but the QC was offended by the music. Last week, they just made the QC cried by playing those music, but they were very happy about upsetting her and they hi-five…

The management knows every well about the fights, but it doesn’t seem like they’re doing much about it. I recalled the senior manager just comforted the QC by saying “Yeah… but if we turn it down, they’ll say we’re racist.”


After being subjected to anonymous threats and verbal abuse, a Home Depot employee who described herself as “intersexed” or a “partial hermaphrodite” submitted sufficient evidence to defeat the home improvement store’s summary judgment motion on her hostile work environment sexual harassment claim, according to the federal court in New Jersey. She was hired by Home Depot in 2006 and soon began hearing “whispers and rumors” around the store that she was a man and that male customers were making obscene comments toward her. The employee complained to a human resources manager, who investigated and prepared a report indicating that the store manager was not cooperative, that despite her direction, he was not taking the HR manager’s advice to stop the badgering seriously—a particular concern because other employees would emulate the store manager’s actions. That same year the store manager questioned the employee’s use of the women’s’ rest room when a female customer expressed discomfort with being in the rest room with “it” apparently referring to the employee’s transsexuality. The HR manager advised the store manager that it was appropriate for the employee to use the women’s rest room and that the store manager should spend some time on trying to

I was unfairly dismissed from my previous job. Turns out my boss did not go through any of the correct procedures, and he also did not give me any written warnings or training in health and safety law, he also failed to correct me on my mistakes, and i was never told about my mistakes, if so not every clearly at all.

Anyway he has invited me to his office tomorrow to have a word with him and act against this dismissal, what should i say to win the case and get my name cleard? Any effective argument tactics which i could use.

I am 17 by the way and i am new to all of this.

lowering a workers pay in the state of NY?

I am finding a labor and employee lawyer tomorrow. Here is the situation I make 26 dollars an hour and I am being told by my first supervisor on the dl that my pay is being lowered by her supervisor. She is not budging, in the state of NY what are my rights. My first supervisor is saying i should make a descion by tom morning at least. do i have rights though? does this have to come from the person who wants to dock the pay to 18 verbally or in writing? Or anything? If anyone has any thoughts or have dealt with this. thanks!

Advice on a potential unfair dismissal?

Please could any one provide advice on whether this appears legal. Someone in my daughters workplace was apparently asked to leave, ie sacked and, if that person went, they were promiced a good reference from the company (Q1, is this legal?). The company claim that they communicated this – only by email – to relevant staff, including my daughter as she had managed this person in the past (while ‘acting up’ as a manager). My daughter does not ever remember seeing this email. She recieved a request for a reference for this person a few months later and completed it honestly. it was positive apart from one part – but it was honest. The person didn’t get the job and, and is now sueing the organisation for apparently thousands of pounds. My daugher was asked, before she knew there were any issues if she had writen this reference by her boss and, at the time – without knowing the seriousness of the situation had said no. But later, remembering she had. (they say she was withholding information on purpose). She is now having to face a 50:50 chance of dissmissal or demotion based on the fact that she should have sent the reference to HR before sending back to the client. Regardless of what ever is happening in the background, is this really potentially a sackable offence. One small mistake of not sending a reference to HR. Her first mistake in 5 years or working there as a very good worker? any advice or experience would be much appreciated. It seems very unfair that she is getting so much blame for 1 small error.

Laws protecting my job…?

I’m 11 weeks pregnant and havent been able to work for 30 days due to how sick I am from the pregnancy. I had 30 days of medical leave from my job which i have now used up. They told me that if i cannot get cleared to come back to work then I either resign or get fired. I have only worked here for 4 months so the FMLA laws do not protect my job there. Are there any other laws that protect me from getting fired? I really need this job but i am still too sick to return to work.

Please help!!
